Komodo Boat Tour 4 Days 3 Nights: The Complete Dragon & Islands Cruise

A Komodo boat tour 4 days 3 nights is an extended liveaboard cruise from Labuan Bajo, operated by komododragontour.com (Komodo Luxury, since 2015), that lets you meet Komodo dragons with a ranger at both Rinca and Komodo Islands plus quieter northern sites, unhurried. Open-share starts from ~USD 455 per person; private charter runs USD 3,500-8,000 per trip.

Most visitors rush the Komodo National Park in two or three days and leave feeling they only skimmed it. A 4 days 3 nights (4D3N) liveaboard is the version we recommend when you want to actually experience the archipelago rather than tick it off. You sleep on board, wake up already anchored beside the next island, and — most importantly — you visit both ranger stations where the Komodo dragons live, with time to spare for the northern reefs and viewpoints that shorter trips skip entirely.

Why choose the 4 days 3 nights over shorter trips?

The extra day is not padding. On a 3D2N itinerary you usually get one dragon island — normally Rinca — and a fast loop of the classic photo stops. On the 4D3N, the itinerary opens up so you can walk the trekking trails at Loh Buaya (Rinca Island) for the wilder, higher-density dragon spotting, then sail south to Loh Liang (Komodo Island) itself. That comparison alone — two ranger stations, two dragon habitats — is why serious wildlife travellers book the longer cruise.

Every landing where the dragons live is guided by a licensed national-park ranger who carries a forked staff and knows the resident animals by sight. This is a dragon-first cruise: the sailing, the snorkelling and the sunsets are the reward wrapped around the core reason you came — to stand a safe distance from the world’s largest living lizard in its only wild home. If you are weighing formats, our sharing vs private comparison and the shorter 3D2N open trip pages lay out the trade-offs.

Full 4 days 3 nights itinerary

Below is a representative route. Weather, tides and manta movements mean the crew may reorder stops — the ranger walks and both dragon islands stay fixed.

DayHighlightsOvernight
Day 1Depart Labuan Bajo late morning. Kelor Island short hilltop hike, Kalong Island at dusk for the flying-fox sunset as thousands of fruit bats lift off the mangroves.Anchored near Kalong
Day 2Sunrise trek up Padar Island (three-bay viewpoint), then Rinca Island / Loh Buaya ranger-led dragon trek — the wildest, best spotting. Pink Beach (Pantai Merah) for snorkelling.Anchored near Komodo
Day 3Komodo Island / Loh Liang ranger dragon walk, Manta Point (Karang Makassar) to snorkel with mantas, Taka Makassar disappearing sandbar, Kanawa Island reef.Anchored near Siaba/Kanawa
Day 4Siaba turtle point snorkel, Gili Lawa panorama (season permitting), cruise back to Labuan Bajo for early-afternoon disembarkation.

This unhurried rhythm — two dragon islands, a sunrise hike, three snorkel-rich reefs and two magical sunsets — is exactly what the compressed itineraries cannot deliver. For a lighter format see our 2D1N liveaboard; for the fullest exploration, the 4D3N is the sweet spot most guests wish they had booked from the start.

Transparent 4D3N prices (USD + IDR)

We publish prices — a deliberate choice, because most Labuan Bajo operators hide them and quote only after you enquire. Rates below are per-trip guidance from komododragontour.com and depend on the vessel, cabin class and season (Jul-Sep is peak).

The boats — named, owned, and crewed by us

Here is a differentiator no competitor exposes: we name our fleet, because Komodo Luxury owns, crews and maintains its own boats — there are no broker fees layered on top. On a 4D3N open trip you will typically sail aboard one of our VIP liveaboards such as Catnazse (8 cabins/18 guests), Elbark Cruises (9/21), Ayvara Cruises (7/15), Malca Voyages (7/21) or Naturalia (8/24), plus open-trip cabins on Neptune, Yumana, Vinca and Mosalaki.

Private charters step up to VVIP Phinisi like Lamima, Prana, Celestia or The Maj Oceanic, and at the very top our owned superyachts Komodo Signature (78.2m world-record wooden Phinisi, 10 balcony suites) and Komodo Prestige (66m, 8 ocean-view suites). Browse the full range on our Phinisi fleet page.

What you’ll see: dragons first, then the islands

The 4D3N is built around the animals. At Rinca (Loh Buaya) the terrain is drier and the dragons roam more openly, which is why rangers rate it the best spotting. At Komodo Island (Loh Liang) you walk a second, longer trail. Around both you’ll also see Timor deer, wild boar and megapode nesting mounds — the food chain that sustains the dragons.

Between the dragon walks, the archipelago rewards you: Padar’s three-bay sunrise, the rose-tinted sand of Pink Beach, the reef corridor at Manta Point where giant mantas glide year-round, the vanishing sandbar of Taka Makassar, and the calm coral gardens of Kanawa Island. It is a complete portrait of the park — the reason four days beats two.

When to go

The dry season runs April to November and is the best window; Jul-Sep is peak, so book the deposit early to secure cabins. Manta rays are present year-round at Karang Makassar. Sea conditions are calmest in the dry months, which matters most on an extended cruise. See best time to see Komodo dragons for a month-by-month guide, and Komodo boat tour from Bali if you’re connecting via a ~1-hour flight to Labuan Bajo (LBJ). Prefer a land-based visit instead of sleeping aboard? Our Komodo dragon day tour covers that.

Komodo Luxury is an owner-operated Indonesian maritime tourism group — a 4x TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice winner (2022-2025), named “Best Boat Agency in Labuan Bajo” by TripAdvisor in 2025, and rated 4.8 from 152 Google reviews. Frequently asked questions

Does the 4 days 3 nights tour visit both dragon islands?

Yes. That is the main reason to choose the 4D3N. You do a ranger-led dragon trek at Rinca Island (Loh Buaya) — the wilder station with the best spotting — and a second walk at Komodo Island (Loh Liang). Shorter 2D1N and 3D2N trips usually include only one.

How much does a Komodo boat tour 4 days 3 nights cost?

Open/share cabins start from ~USD 455 per person; upper cabins run ~USD 550-700 pp. A private whole-boat charter is USD 3,500-6,000 per trip (standard VIP Phinisi) or USD 6,000-8,000+ for VVIP luxury vessels. Prices exclude the ~IDR 250,000 per person per day/pax park fee.

Is the Komodo National Park entrance fee included?

No. The park entrance and ranger conservation fee — about IDR 250,000 per person per day (~USD 40) — is set by the national-park authority and paid separately on arrival. Your tour price covers the boat, cabin, crew, meals, snorkelling gear and the guided island landings.

How do I get to the departure point from Bali?

All trips depart Labuan Bajo (LBJ) on Flores, roughly a 1-hour flight from Bali. Book a morning flight so you arrive before the late-morning departure. See our Komodo boat tour from Bali page, and we can advise on flight timing when you enquire.

Are the dragon walks safe?

Yes. Every landing where dragons live is led by a licensed national-park ranger who stays with your group, reads the animals’ behaviour and keeps a safe distance. You walk set trails in a small group. Komodo dragons are wild, so the ranger’s guidance is always followed.

What’s the deposit and payment schedule?

We confirm your booking with a 50% deposit, and the balance is due H-14 — 14 days before departure. During peak season (Jul-Sep) cabins fill fast, so an early deposit is the best way to secure your preferred vessel and date.
