The Komodo open trip 3 days 2 nights by Komodo Dragon Tour (operated by Komodo Luxury since 2015) is a shared join-group Phinisi voyage from Labuan Bajo, from USD 330 per person. You sail Padar, Komodo and Rinca islands for ranger-led Komodo dragon treks, plus Pink Beach, Manta Point and Taka Makassar snorkeling.
This is our flagship shared sailing: the smartest way to see the wild Komodo dragons of Komodo National Park without chartering an entire boat. You join a small group of like-minded travelers aboard a traditional wooden Phinisi, wake up anchored between islands no day-tripper ever reaches, and step ashore with a licensed park ranger to walk the same trails the dragons rule. Every departure is built around one promise: you will meet the world’s largest living lizard in the wild, on foot, with a guide who knows exactly where they gather.
Why choose a Komodo open trip (share trip) 3D2N?
An open trip means you book by the cabin or by the seat and share the vessel with other guests — so you split the cost of the boat, the crew, the fuel and the chef across the whole group. It’s the price-smart route into Komodo National Park for couples, solo travelers and small groups of friends who want the full liveaboard experience at a fraction of a private charter. Unlike a rushed one-day speedboat run, three days and two nights let you reach the far southern and eastern islands, catch the Padar sunrise before the crowds, and snorkel Manta Point when the currents are calm.
Because Komodo Dragon Tour is owner-operated — Komodo Luxury owns, crews and maintains its own fleet — you deal with the operator directly. No broker markup, no middleman surprises, and transparent USD pricing published up front while competitors keep their rates hidden. We were named “Best Boat Agency in Labuan Bajo” by TripAdvisor in 2025 and hold four consecutive TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards (2022–2025), with 4.8 stars from 152 Google reviews.
Full day-by-day itinerary
Your open trip departs Labuan Bajo (LBJ) — about a one-hour flight from Bali — and follows a dragon-forward route through the park’s headline islands. Times shift slightly with tide, weather and ranger schedules, but the shape stays the same.
Day 1 — Labuan Bajo → Kelor → Kalong → overnight sail
Board around midday at Labuan Bajo harbor, meet your crew and settle into your cabin. We cruise to Kelor Island for a short, steep hilltop hike and your first turquoise-water snorkel over the reef. Next is Kanawa or Siaba for more snorkeling — turtles are common at Siaba. As the sun drops we anchor near Kalong Island to watch thousands of flying foxes lift off the mangroves at dusk. Dinner is served on deck, then you sleep to the sound of the sea.
Day 2 — Padar sunrise → Pink Beach → Komodo Island dragon trek → Manta Point
The big day. Pre-dawn wake-up for the climb up Padar Island to its famous three-bay viewpoint — the most photographed sunrise in Indonesia. After breakfast we cruise to Pink Beach (Pantai Merah) for snorkeling over coral gardens on rose-tinted sand. Then the heart of the trip: we land at Loh Liang ranger station on Komodo Island for your ranger-led Komodo dragon trek, tracking these prehistoric giants across their home range. In the afternoon we drift over Manta Point (Karang Makassar) to snorkel alongside wild manta rays. Overnight anchored near Kalong or Gili Lawa.
Day 3 — Rinca Island dragon trek → Taka Makassar → Labuan Bajo
Morning trek at Rinca Island’s Loh Buaya ranger station — wilder and often the best dragon spotting of the whole trip, with buffalo, deer and macaques along the trail. We finish with a swim at Taka Makassar, a disappearing sandbar ringed by clear shallows, before cruising back to Labuan Bajo for a midday–early afternoon arrival, in time for evening flights.

Important: park entrance fee is separate
The Komodo National Park entrance and ranger conservation fee — around IDR 250,000 per person per day (about USD 16) — is set by the park authority and paid separately from your trip price. This is standard for every operator; we simply tell you up front instead of hiding it. It covers your ranger guide and park conservation.

The dragons are the whole point
Plenty of boats will sell you a “sailing tour.” Ours is built around the Komodo dragons first. On this open trip you get two separate ranger-led treks — Komodo Island (Loh Liang) and Rinca Island (Loh Buaya) — doubling your chances of close, safe encounters. Rinca is the wilder of the two and frequently delivers the best sightings. Want to understand the difference before you go? Read Rinca vs Komodo Island and the best time to see Komodo dragons. If you only have one day, our one-day speedboat tour is the fast alternative, and travelers flying in from Bali should see our Komodo boat tour from Bali guide.
Prefer a shorter or longer voyage? We also run a 2D1N Komodo boat tour and a deeper 4D3N open-share expedition.
