Private Komodo Dragon Tour by Luxury Yacht: 12-18 Guests, Full Service

A private Komodo dragon tour by luxury yacht is a whole-boat charter in Komodo National Park, Indonesia, departing from Labuan Bajo on Flores. One family or group takes the entire vessel, typically 12-18 guests, with ranger-guided dragon trekking at Rinca or Komodo Island, spa treatments, tenders and a dedicated crew.

Updated January 2026

This is the flagship tier of what we operate. Komodo Luxury has run sailing trips in Komodo National Park since 2015, and the yacht tier is where the difference stops being about the route and starts being about the vessel itself. Every charter visits the same UNESCO World Heritage islands — Rinca, Komodo Island, Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point — as a shared trip does. What changes is finish, space per guest, crew ratio and the number of things that can happen on board while you are between islands.

What separates a yacht charter from a phinisi charter

Both are sold as whole-boat, per-night charters. Both sail the same water. The distinction is amenity density and crew-to-guest ratio.

On a phinisi such as Neptune Cruise Phinisi or Komodo Signature, you get a beautiful traditional wooden sailing vessel, air-conditioned cabins, a sun deck, snorkelling gear and a competent crew. On the yacht tier — Lamima (65.2m, the largest phinisi-hulled yacht in the world, up to 14 guests) and Prana by Atzaro — you additionally get a dedicated spa and treatment area, an indoor cinema or media lounge, multiple tenders launched simultaneously so groups can split, a chef running a bespoke menu rather than a fixed one, and a crew that frequently outnumbers the guests.

That crew ratio is the practical difference. It means a tender can drop three guests at a snorkel site while the rest stay for a late breakfast, and both groups are properly looked after.

How much does a private Komodo yacht charter cost?

Yachts are priced per night for the whole vessel, never per person, and never per cabin. The minimum charter is 3 nights (4D3N) and the maximum is 11 nights (12D11N).

TierExample vesselsGuestsRate per night (USD)

A 4D3N charter on a VVIP yacht therefore starts around USD 30,000 for the vessel and rises from there. Divided across 14 guests on a well-filled boat, that is roughly USD 2,100 per person for three nights — high, but not the order-of-magnitude figure people assume when they see the nightly rate in isolation. Compare it honestly against our 3D2N shared trips, which run USD 330-850 per person.

Booking terms are the same at every tier: 50% deposit secures the date, balance due 14 days before departure. Peak dates in July, August and September on the flagship vessels are typically reserved 6-12 months ahead.

What is included and what is not?

Scuba is not part of our charter product. If diving is the point of your trip, our sister site komododivingtour.com handles certified dive packages and dive liveaboard operations properly, and we will coordinate with them rather than improvise.

Park fees on a private charter

As of January 2026, Komodo National Park fees for foreign passport holders are IDR 250,000 (about USD 16) per person per calendar day, set by Government Regulation PP No. 36/2024 — multi-day trips are charged per day in the park, not as a flat trip rate. Fees are set by the park authority and paid separately from tour prices. Indonesian citizens pay a lower rate, and weekend and public-holiday rates differ. On a chartered yacht we handle the permit paperwork and collect the fee amount from you before departure — but the money goes to the park, not to us.

Detail on tiers and what each ticket covers is on our park fees and tickets page.

What does a 4D3N private yacht itinerary look like?

DayMorningAfternoonEvening
Day 1Labuan Bajo arrival, tender to yacht, safety briefingKelor Island viewpoint, Manjarite or Siaba snorkellingKalong Island — thousands of flying foxes lift off at sunset. Overnight at anchor.
Day 2Padar Island sunrise trek, three-bay viewpointPink Beach (Pantai Merah), then Komodo Island (Loh Liang) ranger-guided dragon trekChef’s dinner on the sun deck, cinema or spa. Overnight at Gili Lawa.
Day 3Gili Lawa sunrise hike, then Manta Point (Karang Makassar) snorkelling with reef mantasTaka Makassar sandbar, Mawan or Tatawa reefSunset sail, overnight near Sebayur
Day 4Rinca Island (Loh Buaya) dragon trek — wilder terrain, the best sighting odds in the parkKanawa Island swim, return sail to Labuan BajoDisembark, airport transfer

On a private charter this order is a starting point, not a rule. Because you own the vessel’s schedule, the captain can move the Padar sunrise to a second day if the light looks poor, or hold at Manta Point for two hours because the mantas are feeding. That flexibility is the single most-cited reason our charter guests give for choosing a whole boat over a shared departure.

Safety on the dragon treks

Komodo dragons are wild, dangerous animals. You must always stay with your assigned park ranger during any trek and follow their instructions. Do not walk ahead, do not approach a dragon for a photograph, and tell your ranger before the trek starts if anyone in your group has an open wound — dragons track blood scent. Children must be held or kept between adults at all times. Chartering a yacht buys you comfort and privacy; it buys you no exemption at all from park rules on land.

More detail on trek conditions, footwear and timing is on our dragon trekking guide and Rinca vs Komodo Island comparison.

When should you book a yacht charter?

The dry season runs April to November and is the reliable window. July to September is peak: best visibility, calmest crossings, and the period when Lamima and Prana are booked furthest out. April to June and October to November give you close to the same conditions with more availability and a quieter park. December to March brings rain and stronger swell; we generally advise against chartering at this price point in those months, and we will tell you so rather than take the booking. Who actually charters at this tier?

In practice: multi-generational families travelling with grandparents and small children who need space and an easy deck plan; groups of four to six couples who want their own cabins and their own dinner table; and corporate or milestone groups where the vessel is the venue. If your group is under eight people and price matters more than exclusivity, a premium phinisi from our fleet gives you most of the experience at a fraction of the nightly rate. We would rather say that plainly than sell you a yacht you do not need.

Why book the yacht tier with us

Komodo Luxury owns, crews and maintains its fleet in-house — we are an operator, not a broker reselling someone else’s calendar. That matters most at this tier, where a mechanical fault or a crew problem is the difference between a USD 30,000 trip and a USD 30,000 disappointment. We are part of Juara Holding Group, founded and led by Agung Afif (Forbes Business Council). We hold TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards for 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, TripAdvisor’s Best Boat Agency in Labuan Bajo 2025, and Best Boat Rental from Tempo, with 4.8 stars from 152 Google reviews. Our work has been covered by Forbes, CNN Indonesia, Tempo, Tribunnews, IDN Times, VOI, Investor.id, Yahoo Finance, Benzinga and The Globe and Mail.

Frequently asked questions

How many guests can a private Komodo yacht take?

The VVIP yacht tier runs 12-18 guests. Lamima takes up to 14. Larger phinisi such as Komodo Signature take up to 20 across 10 balcony suites, and Malca Voyages takes up to 21, but at that count you move out of the yacht tier and into large-vessel charter.

What is the minimum charter length?

Three nights (4D3N). We do not sell one-night or two-night charters on the yacht tier — the park sits too far from Labuan Bajo’s anchorage for a shorter trip to justify the rate. Maximum is 11 nights (12D11N), which lets you extend beyond the national park.

Can we do a private yacht trip as a day charter instead?

No. Yachts are sold per night with a three-night minimum. For a single day, take a private speedboat charter at USD 800 per boat, or a shared full-day speedboat trip at USD 91 per person.

Is diving available on a yacht charter?

Not as part of our charter product. Yacht charters are leisure sailing — sightseeing, snorkelling, island hopping and ranger-guided dragon trekking. Certified dive trips are handled by our sister operation at komododivingtour.com.

How far ahead should we book?

For July to September on Lamima, Prana, Komodo Signature or Komodo Prestige, book 6-12 months ahead. Shoulder months (April-June, October-November) can often be confirmed 2-3 months out. A 50% deposit holds the date; the balance is due 14 days before departure.

Are park fees included in the charter rate?

No. We arrange the permits and tell you the exact total before departure.
