Komodo National Park Fee Changelog: Every Rate Change, Dated

Komodo National Park fees are government conservation and entrance charges paid to the park authority in Labuan Bajo, Flores, separately from any tour price. As of January 2026, foreign passport holders pay IDR 250,000 (about USD 16) per person per calendar day, set by Government Regulation PP No. 36/2024 — multi-day trips are charged per day in the park, not as a flat trip rate.

Updated January 2026. This page exists because almost every number you will find about Komodo National Park fees online is undated. A price with no date attached is not information — it is a rumour. Below is a changelog: what the fee is now, when we last verified it, what changed before, and how to check whether the figure you are reading is still current.

The current rate, stated plainly

As of January 2026, Komodo National Park fees for foreign passport holders are IDR 250,000 (about USD 16) per person per calendar day, set by Government Regulation PP No. 36/2024 — multi-day trips are charged per day in the park, not as a flat trip rate. Fees are set by the park authority and paid separately from tour prices.

Komodo National Park fees — current entry, verified January 2026
Effective dateVisitor classDuration tierAmount (IDR)Approx. USD
Current as of January 2026Foreign passport holder1-day tripIDR 250,000~USD 16
Current as of January 2026Foreign passport holder3D2N tripIDR 250,000 per person per day~USD 41

Those are the two figures we will state as numbers, because those are the two figures we can stand behind on the date shown. Where a rate is not listed above — Indonesian nationals, student groups, 2D1N or 4D3N tiers, or activity-specific surcharges — we quote it to you in writing at the time of booking rather than publishing a number here that might be six months stale. That is the entire point of a changelog.

Why is the 3D2N fee more than double the day-trip fee?

Because the fee is tiered by how long you are inside the park, not by how many islands you touch. A 1-day speedboat run in and out of Labuan Bajo sits in the lowest tier. A 3D2N cruising itinerary keeps you inside Komodo National Park across multiple days and overnight anchorages — Kalong Island at sunset, Padar Island before dawn, Manta Point (Karang Makassar) in the morning light — and is charged accordingly. Longer charters step up again.

Changelog: what has actually changed

We log entries here only when we have verified them. Anything we cannot verify with a date is described, not priced.

Entry: January 2026 — current rates verified

Foreign passport holders: IDR 250,000 per person for a 1-day trip; IDR 250,000 per person per day for a 3D2N trip. These are the rates our operations team applied to departures at the time of writing. This is the reference point for every fee quoted elsewhere on komododragontour.com.

Entry: 2022 — the IDR 3.75 million conservation fee that was announced, then withdrawn

In 2022 a substantially higher annual conservation-membership charge for Komodo Island and Padar Island was publicly announced by the provincial authorities, at a level many multiples above the standard entrance fee. It was widely reported, widely protested by Labuan Bajo tour operators, and was subsequently suspended and did not become the settled long-term rate. We record it here because travellers still find 2022-era articles quoting it and assume it applies to them. It does not describe what you will pay in 2026 — the January 2026 figures above do. We deliberately do not restate the proposed amount as a live price, because it was never the operative long-term rate.

Entry: ongoing — the structural things that do not change

Three characteristics of the fee system have held steady and are safe to plan around:

How to tell whether a fee figure you found is current

What should I check before trusting a Komodo fee quoted online?

Run the number through four tests:

  1. Is it dated? If the page does not say when the figure was verified, discard it. Komodo park fees have a documented history of announced changes.
  2. Does it state the visitor class? A single number with no mention of foreign versus Indonesian nationals is incomplete.
  3. Does it state the duration tier? A 1-day figure quoted against a 3D2N trip will understate your cost significantly.
  4. Is it in IDR? Fees are set in rupiah. A USD-only figure is a conversion, and conversions drift with the exchange rate.

If you want a figure confirmed against your exact departure date and party composition, message us on WhatsApp or email sales@komodoluxury.com and we will put the current rate in writing before you pay anything.

Where park fees sit in your total trip cost

Park fees are a small line item next to the boat. For orientation, here is how they sit against our real tour pricing:

Park fee versus tour cost, by trip type
Trip typeTour pricePark fee (foreign, Jan 2026)
Full-day shared speedboat day tripUSD 91 per person (IDR 1,450,000)IDR 250,000 (~USD 16) per person
Full-day private speedboat charterUSD 800 per boatIDR 250,000 (~USD 16) per person
3D2N shared boat tour (locally called an open trip)USD 330–850 per person by cabin tierIDR 250,000 per person per day (~USD 41) per person
Private whole-boat charter (minimum 3 nights)From USD 5,300 per nightQuoted per party at booking

The practical read: on a 3D2N shared trip, the park fee is roughly a tenth of the entry-level cabin rate. It is not the number that decides your trip. The vessel and the cabin decide your trip. See Komodo boat tour prices and cost for the full breakdown, and Komodo National Park fees and tickets for how payment is handled on the day.

Do I pay the park fee to you or at the park?

Park fees are collected by the park authority. In practice, on our departures our crew handles the administration at the ranger stations — Loh Buaya on Rinca Island, Loh Liang on Komodo Island — so you are not queueing with cash in hand. What matters is that you budget for the fee separately and that nobody has told you it is “included” when it is not.

Safety, because fees are not the only thing people underestimate

Komodo dragons are wild, dangerous animals. You must always stay with your assigned park ranger during any trek and follow their instructions. This is not a formality attached to the ticket price — the ranger is the safety system. Do not walk ahead, do not separate from the group to photograph, and tell your ranger before the trek if anyone in your party has an open wound. Full guidance is on our Komodo dragon trekking page, and Rinca vs Komodo Island explains where sighting odds are best.

How long should you actually be inside the park?

A 3D2N trip is the recommended minimum for a proper Komodo boat tour. It is the shortest itinerary that reaches Padar Island at sunrise, Pink Beach (Pantai Merah), Manta Point, Taka Makassar and the Kalong Island flying-fox sunset without compressing everything into a rush. A day trip suits travellers genuinely short on time, and covers the closer stops such as Kelor, Kanawa and a ranger-guided dragon trek. See the 3D2N shared boat tour or the one-day speedboat tour.

Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the fee you pay is part of what keeps it functioning. April to November is the dry season and the best window; July to September is peak. Labuan Bajo is the gateway, about one hour by air from Bali — see Komodo boat tour from Bali.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Komodo National Park fee in 2026?

As of January 2026, Komodo National Park fees for foreign passport holders are IDR 250,000 (about USD 16) per person per calendar day, set by Government Regulation PP No. 36/2024 — multi-day trips are charged per day in the park, not as a flat trip rate. Fees are set by the park authority and paid separately from tour prices.

Did the Komodo park fee really rise to millions of rupiah?

A far higher conservation-membership charge for Komodo Island and Padar Island was announced in 2022, protested by Labuan Bajo operators, and subsequently suspended. It did not become the settled long-term rate. The figures that apply as of January 2026 are IDR 250,000 for a 1-day trip and IDR 250,000 per person per day for 3D2N for foreign passport holders.

Is the park fee included in your tour price?

No. Park fees are government charges collected by the park authority and are quoted separately from the tour price. Our crew handles the administration at the ranger stations on the day, but you should budget the fee as its own line item.

Why do different websites quote different Komodo fees?

Usually because they are undated, or because they mix visitor classes and duration tiers. A fee for an Indonesian national on a day trip is not the fee for a foreign passport holder on a 3D2N trip. Always check the date, the visitor class, the duration tier and that the figure is stated in IDR.

How do I confirm the fee for my specific departure date?

Message us on WhatsApp at https://wa.me/628113823875 or email sales@komodoluxury.com with your dates, nationality mix and trip length. We will confirm the applicable rate in writing before any payment.

Does the fee cover diving in the park?

This page and our trips cover sightseeing, snorkelling and ranger-guided dragon trekking. Scuba diving is a separate product with its own requirements and is handled by our sister site komododivingtour.com.
