Komodo Tour 2026 — Full-Day Trips and Liveaboards From Labuan Bajo (Prices in USD)

A Komodo tour is a boat-based sightseeing trip through Komodo National Park in Flores, Indonesia, usually departing from Labuan Bajo. The default experience is a full-day shared speedboat trip visiting Padar Island, Pink Beach and a ranger-guided Komodo dragon trek, or a 3D2N liveaboard sleeping on board a traditional phinisi.

Updated January 2026 — prices in USD, park fees in IDR. Published by komododragontour.com, operated by Komodo Luxury, an owner-operated sailing tour company working in Komodo National Park since 2015.

What a Komodo tour actually includes

Every Komodo tour is a boat trip. There is no road to the islands: Komodo National Park is an archipelago, and Labuan Bajo (LBJ) on the western tip of Flores is the only practical gateway. From the harbour, boats fan out east and north to Rinca Island, Padar Island, Komodo Island, Pink Beach (Pantai Merah), Manta Point (Karang Makassar), Taka Makassar, Kanawa, Kelor, Siaba, Sebayur, Mawan, Manjarite, Tatawa, Gili Lawa and Kalong Island.

A standard tour combines three things: a ranger-guided trek to see wild Komodo dragons, a viewpoint hike (almost always Padar Island), and snorkelling stops. Longer trips add sunrise, sunset and the flying foxes of Kalong Island — the parts of the park a day trip physically cannot reach.

Komodo dragons are wild, dangerous animals. You must always stay with your assigned park ranger during any trek and follow their instructions. Do not walk ahead, do not separate from the group, and tell your ranger before the trek if you have an open wound.

How many days do you need for a Komodo tour?

Three days and two nights is the recommended minimum for a proper Komodo boat tour. A 3D2N itinerary is the shortest format that reaches Padar at sunrise, gets you to Komodo Island rather than only Rinca, allows unhurried snorkelling at Manta Point, and ends the day at Kalong Island for the bat flight. A one-day speedboat trip is a genuine option — but choose it because you are short on time, not because you expect the full park.

Why do 3D2N prices vary so much?

Because a shared boat tour — locally called an open trip — is priced per cabin, not per head. Two guests in a superior cabin pay less each than two guests in a master suite on the same boat, same departure, same itinerary. Real 2026 rates from our own fleet:

Vessel and cabinPrice per person (3D2N)
Yumana — SuperiorUSD 330
Elbark Cruises — Banda Neira / SavuUSD 400
Naturalia — LagoonUSD 400
Catnazse — GrandisUSD 430
Vinca Voyages — BalineseUSD 430
Ayvara Cruises — SuperiorUSD 450
Malca Voyages — MasterUSD 580
Neptune Cruise Phinisi — DeluxeUSD 610
Mosalaki — AdonaraUSD 800
Neptune Cruise Phinisi — MansardUSD 850

An extra bed or additional person in an existing cabin costs USD 250–410 depending on the vessel. The genuine entry rate for a 3D2N shared trip is USD 330 per person — if you see “from USD 220” advertised anywhere, ask what is being excluded.

How much are Komodo National Park entrance fees?

As of January 2026, Komodo National Park fees for foreign passport holders are IDR 250,000 (about USD 16) per person per calendar day, set by Government Regulation PP No. 36/2024 — multi-day trips are charged per day in the park, not as a flat trip rate. Fees are set by the park authority and paid separately from tour prices.

Foreign passport holderIDR 250,000 (≈ USD 16)IDR 250,000 per person per day (≈ USD 16)

Fees are tiered by duration because longer trips enter more zones and use more ranger services. Because the park authority reviews tariffs periodically, we re-confirm the exact figure with you before departure. Full detail on Komodo National Park fees and tickets.

The duration ladder: which Komodo tour to book

1-Day Speedboat Tour — USD 91 per person

Departs Labuan Bajo around 05:00–06:00 and returns around 17:00–18:00. Typical stops: Padar Island viewpoint, Pink Beach, ranger-guided dragon trek at Rinca (Loh Buaya) or Komodo Island (Loh Liang), Manta Point and Kanawa or Kelor for snorkelling. Long, fast and rewarding — but you will see the park in daylight only. See the one-day speedboat tour.

2D1N Cruise — from USD 250–450 per person

One night on board. You gain a sunset, a quieter Padar sunrise, and a slower snorkelling pace. A reasonable compromise if you have a fixed flight the following afternoon. See the 2D1N itinerary.

3D2N Shared Liveaboard — USD 330–850 per person

The recommended standard. Two nights aboard a phinisi covers Padar at sunrise, both dragon sites, Manta Point, Taka Makassar’s disappearing sandbar, Siaba, Manjarite and Kalong Island at dusk. Book a cabin, share the boat with other travellers. See the 3D2N open trip.

4D3N and Longer Private Charter — from USD 5,300 per night

The whole boat is yours: your route, your wake-up times, your dining schedule. Charters run a minimum of 3 nights and a maximum of 11 nights (4D3N through 12D11N). Entry-luxury phinisi start at USD 5,300 per night; larger VIP vessels run USD 8,000+ per night; VVIP flagships of the Lamima and Prana class reach USD 35,000+ per night. See the 4D3N charter and the sharing vs private comparison.

Which boat should you choose?

We own, crew and maintain our fleet in-house — we are not a broker reselling someone else’s boat. That matters when a compressor fails or a cabin air-conditioner dies at 2 am.

Full specifications on the fleet page.

What is the difference between a Komodo cruise and a Komodo liveaboard?

In Komodo, “liveaboard” usually means a vessel configured for scuba diving — dive deck, compressors, divemasters, nitrox — repositioning overnight between dive sites for certified divers. Cruising, or leisure sailing, means sleeping aboard for sightseeing, island hopping, snorkelling and comfort, with ranger-guided dragon trekking at its centre and no diving required. Cruising is our core offer. If you want certified diving or a course, our sister site komododivingtour.com handles that side.

When is the best time for a Komodo tour?

The dry season, April to November, is best: calmer seas, reliable sunrises at Padar, better underwater visibility. July to September is peak — book cabins six to eight weeks ahead. Dragons are visible year-round; sightings at Rinca (Loh Buaya) tend to be wilder and slightly more reliable than at Komodo Island. Frequently asked questions

How much does a Komodo tour cost in 2026?

A full-day shared speedboat tour costs USD 91 per person and a full-day private speedboat charter costs USD 800 per boat. A 3D2N shared liveaboard runs USD 330–850 per person depending on cabin tier, and private whole-boat charters start at USD 5,300 per night with a three-night minimum. Komodo National Park entrance fees are paid separately.

Is a one-day Komodo tour enough?

It is enough to see Padar Island, Pink Beach, a ranger-guided dragon trek and one or two snorkelling stops in a single long day, roughly 05:00 to 18:00. It is not enough for sunrise at Padar or the Kalong Island bat flight, both of which require sleeping on board. We recommend 3D2N as the minimum for a complete Komodo tour.

Are Komodo dragons dangerous to tourists?

Yes. Komodo dragons are wild, dangerous animals with a powerful bite. You must always stay with your assigned park ranger during any trek and follow their instructions, never walk ahead of the group, and inform your ranger before the trek if you have any open wound.

How do I get to Labuan Bajo for a Komodo tour?

Fly into Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo, western Flores. It is roughly a one-hour flight from Bali, with several daily services. Most tours depart from Labuan Bajo harbour between 05:00 and 08:00, so arriving the day before is strongly advised.

How far in advance should I book a Komodo tour?

For the July–September peak, book six to eight weeks ahead — the better cabins on shared phinisi trips sell out first. Outside peak, two to three weeks is usually sufficient. A 50% deposit holds the date and the balance is due 14 days before departure.

Do I need to be able to dive?

No. Our Komodo tours are cruising and leisure sailing trips built around ranger-guided dragon trekking, island viewpoints and snorkelling — no certification required. If you specifically want scuba diving or a dive course, our sister site komododivingtour.com covers that.
